Dr.Everett Schaeffer

On September 23, 2015 our dad passed into glory. He lived his life to point to "Abba Father."

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15 NLT

Dad was a “father” to many, and he called us his own children and desired to spend time with us.

Everett William Schaeffer, born August 7, 1917 in Peoria, IL, lived a life of service to his Father.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Herbert and Mrs. Anna Kindelberger Schaeffer, his wife Roberta Amanda Fry Schaeffer, and he is the last of six siblings.

He dearly loved his four children, spouses and their families:  Rev.  Robert Schaeffer (Janet) of Berea, KY; Ruth Walker (Tim) of Berea, KY; Margery Justice of Wabash, IN; and Pastor David Schaeffer (Kathi) of Seminole, FL; four grandchildren:  Derek Schaeffer, Jennifer Fugitt, Andy Walker and Jennifer Weaver; four great-grandchildren:  Caleb and Aubrey Fugitt;  Elley and Sawyer Weaver and many loved nieces and nephews.

His love for the Lord was lifelong, beginning with the day he trusted in his heart for Jesus Christ to take him to heaven when the time came for him to die. He is there now with his beloved wife Roberta and all the saints who passed through ahead of him.

Dad served in the US Army as a doctor at the end of WWII. After his service to his country, he obeyed the call of the Lord to serve his Savior for 38 years at Red Bird Mission in Beverly Kentucky as a Missionary Doctor.  He is still greatly loved there and the hospital he worked in is named the Schaeffer Clinic in his honor.

After retiring from Red Bird in 1984, dad and mom moved to Berea Ky where he was a Doctor for Berea College Health Service, until his retirement in 1994.

Dad never retired from serving his Lord. He volunteered at Berea Hospital, and the Berea United Methodist Church, where he was a member for 31 years.  He was involved in Body Recall and loved to recycle.  He loved to correspond with many friends and family throughout the country.

Dad loved to spend time with the four of us and our families. There are many who love him wherever we have lived from Florida, Kentucky and Indiana.  Dad also blessed the homes of our dearly loved cousins on the Schaeffer and Fry side of this family.
