Elinor D. Spurlock, age 83, of Manchester, KY, departed this life on Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Laurel Creek Health Care Center.
Elinor is survived by two daughters: Donna Hall and husband Randy of Middletown, Ohio, and Karen Rice of Manchester, KY, and Deno Gray who was like a son to her and a loyal employee of Manchester Dry Cleaners for 30 years.
Elinor was a much loved granny by her four grandchildren: David Wesley Hall of Middletown, OH; Courtney Leigh Rice of Tampa, FL; Christian Jordan Rice and wife Casey of Edgewood, KY; and Cameron Chase Rice of Mainville, OH. She is also survived by two great granddaughters: Adelai Jordan Rice and Ashlin James Rice.
Elinor is also survived by three sisters: Stella Steely and husband Paul of Williamsburg, KY; Minnie Clark of Miamisburg, OH; and Jean Sutton and husband Dean of Morganton, GA.
Elinor is predeceased by her beloved husband Grover Spurlock; her father Daniel Davidson and stepmother Imogene Davidson and mother Florence Ledford Hooker and husband Willie Hooker; her much loved son-in-law Dr. James C. Rice; three sisters: Lois Meadows; Opal Roberts; and Naomi Jacobs; and two brothers: Daniel Davidson, Jr. and Thomas Martin.
Elinor was a member of Manchester Baptist Church. She was a school teacher in the Clay County schools for 45 years and 30 of those were in special education. She loved teaching and loved her students even more. After retiring from teaching, she worked at Manchester Dry Cleaners with Grover until his retirement at age 84.
Funeral service for Elinor D. Spurlock will be held at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 2:00. Brother Ken Bolin will be officiating and burial will follow in the Manchester Memorial Gardens, Manchester, KY.
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the funeral time of 2:00.
