Thursday morning "Kidnapping/Assault/Rape" in Laurel County


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Detective Kevin Berry along with Deputy Shawn Jackson are investigating a kidnapping/assault/rape which occurred early Thursday morning November 24, 2016 at approximately 12:30 AM.

The investigating deputies report that apparently a lone female victim driving a van was flagged down by a suspect who had a flashlight who stopped the victim on 7th Street in Corbin advising her there was a wreck ahead.

When the victim stopped, the male suspect jumped in the vehicle on the passenger side, assaulted the 47 year old female driver, drove to an unknown location where he raped the female while armed with a knife. He then tied her up in the back of the van and abandoned it behind the Liberty Gas Station at Lily off US 25 approximately 6 miles south of London.

Deputies were dispatched to that location from store employees and other persons who heard a female screaming at approx 5:30 A.M. Deputy Shawn Jackson arrived at the scene and located the female victim, tied up in the back of the van and notified EMS.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County transported the female victim to St. Joseph Hospital London for treatment.

The suspect is described as a male having a dark complexion wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. Anyone with any information on this suspect is asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff's office at 606-864-6600 or 606-878-7000 – information will be strictly confidential.

Investigation is continuing.
