Injury School bus crash in Perry County


Hazard, KY - At approximately 7:30 this morning, the Hazard Police Department received a report of a collision involving a school bus at the intersection of School and North Main Streets.

The Hazard Independent school bus, driven by Billy Whitehead of Hazard, was turning left from School Street onto North Main when it was struck by a silver Volvo driven by Justin Pence of Viper. Preliminary information indicates that the school bus had a green light.

The bus was occupied by approximately 22 people including the driver and an aide. 8 occupants of the bus, including the driver, were transported by ambulance to ARH Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Volvo was not injured and was arrested on an outstanding warrant unrelated to the collision.

The collision remains under investigation by Patrolman Doug Ashley.
