Child Neglect Investigations Land a Hinkle, Kentucky Man and Woman in Jail

HINKLE, KY - The Knox County Sheriff's Department is reporting that: On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, acting with Knox DCBS, Sheriff Smith and deputies located and arrested 29-year-old Joshua Smith and 27-year-old Lisa Helton both of Hinkle, Ky.

DCBS had been searching for both subjects in child neglect investigations.

Smith and Helton were located at a residence in Hinkle, KY just after Noon.

Upon making contact with Smith and entering the residence, Sheriff Smith and deputies found children present in unsanitary living conditions such as floors matted with nastiness, feces covering floors, and other locations throughout the residence, as well as non-working water fixtures and bathroom fixtures.

Joshua Smith was charged with:

  • Custodial Interference
  • Abused or Neglected Children - UJC

Lisa Helton  was charged with:

  • Custodial Interference
  • Abused or Neglected Children - UJC

Both were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Working together on this arrest along with Sheriff Mike Smith were Deputies Sam Mullins - arresting officer, Pat Clouse, and Mike Broughton.
