Upcoming FREE Programs in November, 2021 for Clay County, Kentucky from the Cooperative Extension Service

MANCHESTER, KY (October 28, 2021) - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for November, 2021.

4-H Art Club will take place Thursday, November 4th and Thursday, December 2nd at 4:00PM at the Clay County Extension Office. This club will focus on various art projects that can be entered for 4-H Showcase and KY State Fair. For the next 2 months, we will focus on oil pastel art and printmaking! Free and open to youth ages 8-18. You must call 598-2789 to register.

Kentucky Maple School – November 6th from 10 am – 3:30 pm at the Letcher County Extension Office. Join us as we tap into Kentucky’s untapped resource. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Abby Van Den Berg, University of Vermont. Topics will include: Maple Tapping Research, Support for Maple Syrup Producers, Kentucky Maple Syrup Association Meeting and Maple Vendor Exhibits, and door prizes. 4-H Painting Kits will be available for pick-up November 8-12th at the Clay County Extension Office. Free and open to youth ages 5-18. Limited kits will be available, you must call 598-2789 to reserve your spot!

Woodland Owners Meeting

Do you own forests or woodlands in southeastern Kentucky? Clay County Cooperative Extension is hosting an informational meeting to discuss the formation of a forest owner group for mountain landowners. The first meeting will introduce landowners to useful resources and determine future topics of discussion (timber sales and management, cultivation of forest medicinal plants and edible mushrooms, forest health, sales of carbon offsets, and more). The first meeting will take place at 6 PM on November 9 at the EXCEL Building (86 Muddy Gap Road) in Manchester. Registration is free, but you must call 606-598-2789 no later than November 3rd to register. Supper will be served. This is an approved educational event for Clay County producers to receive their CAIP cost-share reimbursement.

Join us Thursday, November 11th and Thursday, December 16th at 4:30PM at the Clay County Extension Office for the 4-H Teen Club. This club is free and open to middle and high school youth interested in gaining leadership skills, meeting new friends, and participating in community service projects! 2022 Piggy Bank Design Contest is a creative way for youth to learn the importance of saving money and reducing debt. The contest is free and for all youth in kindergarten through 12th grade. Participants submit an original piggy bank and entry form to the Clay County Extension Office between November 15th – 17th. Call 598-2789 or stop by the Extension Office for an entry form and the official rules.

4-H Rabbit Club will take place on Tuesday, November 16th at 4:00PM at the Clay County Extension Office. You do not have to own a rabbit to join! You must call 598-2789 to register. Free and open to youth ages 5-18.

Do you love to cook? Join us at the 4-H Cooking Club as we make a delicious holiday recipe Monday, November 22nd at 4:00pm and Tuesday, December 21st at 2pm at the Clay County Extension Office. You must call 598-2789 to register by December 17th. FREE & open to youth ages 8-18.

4-H Thanksgiving Coloring Contest is FREE & open to all youth ages 5-18. Stop by the office at 69 Jameson Rd to pick up a coloring sheet. You must return your coloring sheet by November 18th at the Clay County Extension Office. Results will be released on November 23rd. You will be notified by phone. Winners will receive a prize!
