INJURY COLLISION ON KENTUCKY ROUTE 97

MAYFIELD, KY (January 10, 2022) – The Kentucky State Police is reporting that Troopers with KSP, Post 1 are investigating a Sunday afternoon collision that sent a Graves County woman to an out of state hospital.

On January 9, 2022 at approximately 1:20 P.M., Kentucky State Police, Post 1 received a call of a single vehicle collision in front of 1249 State Route 97 in Graves County. Kentucky State Police, Post 1 Troopers responded to the scene to investigate the collision.

The initial investigation indicates that Joyce Buckingham, 50 of Mayfield, Kentucky was traveling south on State Route 97, operating a 2009 Acura RDX.

For reasons believed to be related to driver fatigue, Buckingham left the roadway and struck a tree in front of 1249 State Route 97.

Buckingham was extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means. She was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center where she was then flown by Air Evac to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Buckingham was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Justin Fox.

Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by Mayfield-Graves County EMS and the Mayfield Fire Department.
