LSO Deputy injured during Assault on Arresting Officers by Vehicle Theft Suspect

LONDON, KY (March 8, 2022) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Allen Turner along with Deputy Jamie Etherton, Deputy Brent France and Detective Bryon Lawson arrested Cody Marcum age 25 of Highway 3434, East Bernstadt, KY on Monday afternoon March 7, 2020 at approximately 12:14 PM.

Cody MarcumThe arrest occurred on Somerset Road approximately 4 miles west of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint that a transport van had reportedly been stolen off Glenview Road approximately 2 miles north of London.

Deputies were able to locate the reported stolen vehicle on Somerset Road 3 miles from where it had been stolen.

A lone male suspect was located driving the vehicle, a silver Dodge Caravan.

Upon arrest the driver began violently fighting, kicking and punching deputies there.

One deputy received injuries to his leg from the repeated violent kicking.

Deputies were finally able to take this individual into custody.

Cody Marcum was charged with:

  • Four counts of assault third-degree – police officer is victim
  • Theft by unlawful taking – auto – $10,000 or more but under $1 million
  • Public intoxication – controlled substances
  • Resisting arrest
  • Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
