FEMALE ARRESTED DURING TRAFFIC STOP ON HIGHWAY 80 IN PULASKI COUNTY, KENTUCKY ATTEMPTS TO SMUGGLE HIDDEN NARCOTICS INTO JAIL

SOMERSET, KY - Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones is reporting that on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, a Pulaski County woman was arrested following a traffic stop.

The incident began when Detectives with the Narcotics Division were conducting surveillance following a pursuit. While conducting surveillance, Detectives observed Ashley Nichole Collett, Age 38, of Somerset operating a Mitsubishi Mirage on East Highway 80.

Detective Tan Hudson, who was familiar with Collett, was aware she did not possess a valid driver’s license. Detective Hudson conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of Eastway.

Detective Lieutenant Daryl Kegley, Detective Trent Massey, and an Agent from the Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force arrived on scene to assist in the stop. Collett gave consent to search the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, Detectives located:

  • Marijuana
  • Digital scales
  • Syringes
  • A glass smoking pipe

Ashley Collett was arrested and was advised if she had anything hidden on her person, she should disclose it to avoid additional charges at the detention center. The subject turned over a small baggie containing Cocaine and claimed she didn’t have anything else hidden and was then transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center.

After arrival at the Detention Center, Deputy Jailers ran a body scan on Collett and discovered items hidden inside of her pelvic area. Deputy Jailers confronted Collett about the items and eventually she removed a vial containing Cocaine and turned it over to the staff.

Detectives from the Narcotics Division were present when the Detention Center conducted a second body scan on the subject during which another vial was located in her pelvic region. Collett eventually turned over the second vial that contained Fentanyl.

Ashley Collett was charged with the following:

1. No Operators-Moped License
2. Possession of Marijuana
3. Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Cocaine)
4. Promoting Contraband 1st Degree
5. Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Fentanyl)
6. Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Cocaine)

This individual was lodged at the Pulaski County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation by Detective Trent Massey of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division. The Pulaski County Narcotics Division was assisted by the Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force.
