Call of a Man lying on a Porch leads to Attempted Murder Charge in Southeast Kentucky

BARBOURVILLE, KY - The Knox County Sheriff's Department is reporting that early Friday, morning March 17, 2023, Knox County Deputy Jesse Smith was dispatched to call of a man lying on a porch asking for help.

Once on scene, Deputy Smith spoke to the male victim who stated that a man, identified as 52-year-old David Caldwell of Corbin, KY had attacked him with what he believed was a hammer or instrument of some sort.

According to the victim, this was after the two men got into an altercation in the living room. The deputy observed that the victim had a large laceration on his face and on his back.

It was determined that the victim suffered a collapsed lung and broken rib in addition to the cuts. He was initially taken to Baptist Hospital in Corbin and then onto to UK Hospital.

Caldwell was arrested and transported to the Knox County Detention Center.

David Caldwell was charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Public Intoxication

This individual was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
