LONDON, KY (May 10, 2023) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: A Suspect who was arrested a short time after robbing a bank in Corbin, KY in September of last year has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to the crime.
Shawn Fox age 35 of Corbin, KY has been ordered to serve 80 months in federal prison following a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in London to the bank robbery charge.
The guilty plea was the result of an investigation conducted by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office investigators along with FBI after Fox was arrested in less than 2 hours after he robbed the Community Trust Bank in Corbin on September 27th, 2022.
During that investigation the Laurel County Sheriff's office along with all Tri-County law enforcement officers were notified of a bank robbery at the Community Trust Bank located on U.S. 25W approximately 11 miles South of London in the North Corbin area.
It was reported that a male suspect armed with a pistol had entered the bank demanding money and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Reportedly the suspect fled in a red colored Honda Civic.
A short time later information was developed that the suspect had changed clothing and ditched the red Honda for a red colored Ford F150 pickup. Area law enforcement officers were able to develop a possible suspect due to excellent video surveillance from the bank.
The suspect’s picture (left) was posted on the Laurel County Sheriff's office app along with a Facebook post to the Laurel Sheriff's Office Page ,and information sent to regional news outlets.
As area law enforcement officers continue to search for the vehicle, Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith located the possible suspect vehicle behind a residence on Moore Hill Road near Corbin, KY in the edge of Knox County.
Area law enforcement officers including Knox Sheriff's office, Laurel County Sheriff's office, Corbin Police Dept., and Kentucky State Police surrounded the house. The suspect was called out of the residence and shortly afterward exited the residence and surrendered without incident.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Laurel County Sheriff's office to be interviewed by Laurel Sheriff's investigators and the FBI.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root stated that great teamwork between the Knox County Sheriff's office, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, and Kentucky State Police with assistance from the public resulted in a quick arrest and a safe resolution.
Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Robert Reed was the case officer.
Shawn Fox is in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Office.
