FATAL CRASH ON HIGHWAY 26 IN WASHINGTON COUNTY, OREGON

WASHINGTON COUNTY, OR (May 16, 2023) - The Oregon State Police (OSP) is reporting that on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at approximately 12:45 A.M., OSP responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 26, near milepost 38, in Washington County.

The preliminary investigation indicated a red Jeep Cherokee, operated by Rebecca Barnett (33) of Portland, was traveling westbound on Highway 26 when the vehicle left the roadway, on the north side of the highway, for unknown reasons. The vehicle rolled multiple times down the embankment to the trees. Barnett suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. 

Two juvenile passengers were transported to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

The highway remained open with traffic being diverted for approximately four hours.

OSP was assisted by the Washington Co. Sheriff's Office, Banks Fire, and ODOT.
