SOMERSET, KY - According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Bobby Jones reports that on Monday, August 7, 2023, two individuals from Louisville, KY were taken into custody following a traffic stop on US 27.
The incident began when Detectives with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division were conducting interdiction in the Eubank area of Pulaski County.
While conducting surveillance, Detective’s observed a Dodge Charger with out of state plates pull into the parking lot of the Dollar General Store. The vehicle exited the parking lot and failed to stop at the stop sign or use a turn signal, turning onto Highway 27.
Detective Trent Massey was able to stop the vehicle on US 27, just North of Highway 452. Detective Lieutenant Daryl Kegley and Detective Tan Hudson stopped on the scene as well.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Mark Tran, age 30 of Louisville. The passenger was identified as Karina Herrera, age 26, also of Louisville.

While Detective Massey was running the information, from the occupants of the vehicle, Tran attempted to retrieve something from under the passenger seat.
Detectives removed both subjects from the vehicle. Tran stated the bag he recovered from under the seat contained Methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle was conducted and Detectives located a large amount of Methamphetamine, Marijuana, Hydrocodone, and cash.
Tran and Herrera were transported to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Detectives processed the evidence and the total weight of the Methamphetamine was 375 grams.
Mark Tran was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Failure to or Improper Signal
2. Disregarding Stop Sign
3. Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense – (> or = 2 GMS Methamphetamine)
4. Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense – (> or = 10 D/U)
Karina Herrera was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense – (> or = 2 GMS Methamphetamine)
2. Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense – (> or = 10 D/U)
3. Possession of Marijuana
Both individuals were transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center

The case remains under investigation by Detective Trent Massey of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division.
Narcotics Detectives were assisted on the incident by Deputy Kyle Edwards, Deputy Grant Bryant, Deputy Jay Picard and Deputy Marcus Harrison.
