WANTON ENDANGERMENT, DUI AND FLEEING ARREST IN LAUREL COUNTY, KENTUCKY

LONDON, KY - The London Police Department reports that on Friday, January 26, 2024 at approximately 6:45 P.M., LPD Officer Jared Hale arrested Samuel D. Baker, age 63 of London, KY.

Deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff's Office were investigating a traffic collision, when a vehicle passed by them, almost striking two deputies. Officers of the London Police Department were notified of the description of the vehicle and requested to observe for it.

Officer Josh Morgan was able to locate the vehicle, operated by Baker, in the driveway of his residence with the vehicle still running and occupied by Baker. When the suspect observed Officer Morgan, he exited the driver seat and fled around the residence and barricaded himself in a shed.

Baker refused multiple commands by officers on scene to open the shed. Officers eventually had to force entry, and after a brief struggle, were able to take Baker into custody.

Baker was noted as having a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his persons, had slurred speech, glossy and bloodshot eyes, and had trouble keeping his balance on his own. Due to his level of intoxication, Standard Field Sobriety Tests were not completed for Baker's safety.

This suspect was later lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center without further incident.

Samuel D. Baker was charged with:

  • Wanton Endangerment - 2nd Degree (Police Officer)
  • Fleeing or Evading Police - 2nd Degree (On Foot)
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle U/Influence of Alcohol - 2nd Offense (Aggravating Circumstance)
  • Menacing
