COMPLAINT INVESTIGATION TURNS VIOLENT AT A VEHICLE DEALERSHIP IN CORBIN, KENTUCKY

CORBIN, KY - The Knox County Sheriff's Department is reporting that on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at approximately 5:50 AM, Knox County Deputy Jeremiah Williamson responded to a complaint of a man acting suspiciously in the Legacy Ford Dealership parking lot on Cumberland Gap Parkway in Corbin.

When Deputy Williamson arrived at the dealership, he observed a man who was later identified as 20 year-old Matthew E. Gray of Corbin, KY attempting to gain entry into a vehicle.

After the deputy confronted Gray, he attempted to flee on foot.

When Deputy Williamson caught up with the Gray, he became combative and began to fight. After a struggle, Gray was subdued and arrested. 

The arrested subject was transported to the Knox County Detention Center.

Mathew Gray was charged with:

  • Fleeing or Evading Police-2nd Degree
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Assault-3rd Degree/Police Officer
  • Menacing

During the arrest, a plastic bag containing suspected heroin and a plastic bag of assorted pills were found in his possession.

Gray was then charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance-1st Degree
  • Prescription Controlled Substance not in Proper Container
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

This individual was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
