Drugs/Gun Seizure in Hazard, KY from Convicted Felon due to Involvement in DUI Crash that Killed 4 People in 2014 and Currently Wanted on Warrant of Arrest

HAZARD, KY - The Hazard Police Department reports that: On Monday, February 5, 2024 Sgt. Childers was observing a known drug location when he witnessed a vehicle arrive and leave after a short period of time.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. The driver, Shawn Hardin, had a suspended license and a warrant for his arrest. Hardin was placed under arrest.

A bag containing a crystal like substance was found on the male.

In a subsequent search of the car, Sgt. Childers Iocated a zip bag containing a large amount of a crystal like substance along with a handgun under the seat. Hardin is a convicted felon due to a DUI resulting in the death of 4 individuals.

In searching the rest of the car, Sgt. Childers located another zip bag in the back floorboard, drug paraphernalia, and $730 in the male's wallet.

Shawn Hardin was transported to the Kentucky River Regional Jail (KRRJ) in Hazard, KY.

  • 4 bags of crystal like substance (approx. 341 grams or 12.025 OZ)
  • Bag of green leafy substance (approx. 16g)
  • 2 scales
  • $730
  • 206 empty baggies
  • Meth pipe
  • Hi-Point firearm (P10138628) and loaded magazine
