New Unmanned Aircraft System Expected to Enhance Public Safety in Whitley County, Kentucky

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - The City of Williamsburg Police Department is pleased to announce the newest addition of technology to our department which will be a tremendous asset to our community.

Our agency now has an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) more commonly known as a drone.

There are approximately 1,400 law enforcement agencies in the United States using drones.

The UAS will be used to enhance public safety and to assist law enforcement for operations including tactical, search and rescue, crime and collision scenes, fire investigations, and will help assess city infrastructure damage/hazards resulting from flood or storm damage.

The Williamsburg Police Department drone program is in accordance with the FAA, state, and federal laws.

A drone is considered an aircraft by the FAA. We are fortunate to be one of the first agencies in our area to bring this life saving technology to our community.

We look forward to working with other law enforcement agencies to better serve our community.
