Kentucky State Police Mourn Loss of Trooper Jonathon Johnson Involved in Off-duty Fatal Motorcycle Crash

MADISONVILLE, KY – Kentucky State Police (KSP) is mourning the loss of Trooper Jonathan Johnson, age 48, of Bowling Green, who was involved in an off-duty fatal crash Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The Warren County Coroner made the pronouncement at 10:48 a.m. C.T.

Trooper Johnson was a nine-year veteran of the agency, assigned to Muhlenberg County. He graduated from Cadet Class 92 and served at both the Madisonville and Bowling Green posts during his tenure with the agency. He received the post-level Detective of the Year honor in 2019.

“Trooper Johnson served and protected Kentucky’s families through the Kentucky State Police and we are saddened by this loss,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “Please join me in praying for the Johnson family and everyone at KSP.”

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Trooper Johnson, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash.” said KSP Captain Derek Smith. “Our Post 2 personnel appreciate the outpouring of support and pray for the Johnson family as they cope with this devastating loss.”

Captain Smith advised that information regarding funeral arrangements will be released when available and that Post 2 will not be releasing any information regarding the crash investigation, as it is being handled by Post 3 in Bowling Green, where the incident occurred.

Trooper Johnson is survived by his wife and four children.
