Laurel County Sheriff's Office DOCJT Class #557 Lends a Helping Hand to Classmate Deputy Justin Lewis

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Monday, May 19th, 2025: "This past week has been a stark reminder of the unexpected challenges life can throw our way."

"For Laurel County Deputy Justin Lewis, who is on the cusp of graduation with DOCJT training class #557 this Thursday, those challenges arrived in the form of devastating tornadoes that swept through our community last Friday night, causing significant damage to his home off Sunshine Hills."

"In the face of such personal adversity, what has unfolded is truly inspiring. Demonstrating a remarkable spirit of unity and compassion, Deputy Lewis's entire training class at the DOCJT Police Academy in Richmond was granted permission to travel to Laurel County."

"These future law enforcement officers, still in their training, didn't hesitate to lend their hands and their strength to a fellow member in need. This act of solidarity speaks volumes about the character of these individuals and the values instilled by the DOCJT. The Laurel County Sheriff's Office and all of us in Laurel County deeply appreciate this extraordinary show of support."

"Witnessing this selfless act reminds us of the importance of community, especially in times of crisis. It echoes the familiar call to check on our neighbors and friends, to offer help where we can, and to stand together when the unexpected happens. The aftermath of the tornadoes has undoubtedly left its mark, and the road to recovery will be long for many. Yet, the willingness of Deputy Lewis's classmates to step up highlights the inherent goodness and the desire to support one another that resides within our communities."

"As we keep Deputy Lewis and all those affected by the storm in our thoughts, let us also extend our gratitude to the DOCJT Police Academy for fostering such a supportive and compassionate environment. Let this serve as a reminder to continue reaching out, offering assistance, and keeping each other in our prayers. In the face of adversity, the strength of our community and our shared humanity shines brightest. Let's continue to be there for one another."
