APPRECIATION!: Note from Laurel Co., KY Sheriff to Claiborne Co., TN Sheriff's Office

LONDON, KY (Wed., May 21st, 2025) — Five days ago, our community here in Laurel County experienced something truly devastating. A tornado tore through our heart, leaving behind an unimaginable trail of destruction.

We are still reeling from the loss of 17 precious lives, and hundreds more are recovering from injuries, both physical and emotional. In the face of such profound tragedy, the outpouring of support we've received has been a beacon of hope.

Today, I want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to a truly exceptional individual and a remarkable department: Sheriff Bob Brooks and the entire Claiborne County Tennessee Sheriff's Office.

In the aftermath of the tornado, when our resources were stretched thin and the task ahead seemed insurmountable, Sheriff Brooks didn't hesitate. Without prompting, without a moment's delay, he dispatched 12 of his deputies to our aid. Twelve dedicated men and women who left their own homes and their own duties to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Laurel County Sheriff's Office.

Their presence here, their willingness to assist in the challenging work, security, and community support, has been nothing short of invaluable. They arrived ready to work, with professionalism and compassion, demonstrating the true spirit of inter-agency cooperation and selfless service.

Sheriff Brooks, your decision to send your deputies speaks volumes about your leadership and the caliber of the individuals you lead. It reflects a profound understanding of what it means to be a neighbor, especially in times of crisis. Your deputies have helped us navigate these darkest days, providing much-needed relief and expertise, and allowing our own officers to focus on the myriad of urgent needs across our county.

On behalf of the entire Laurel County community, from those who have lost so much to those who are working tirelessly to rebuild, we extend our most heartfelt thanks. Your act of solidarity has not only provided practical assistance but has also uplifted our spirits and reminded us that we are not alone.

To Sheriff Bob Brooks and every single deputy from the Claiborne County Tennessee Sheriff's Office who answered the call: Thank you, your generosity, your bravery, and your unwavering support will not be forgotten. We are eternally grateful!
