*UPDATE* MURRAY, KY (July 2, 2025) - Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 continues the investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, June 16, in Murray, Ky. Preliminary interviews have been completed, and investigators have released their initial findings.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at 11:44 p.m. CT on Monday, June 16, the Murray Police Department had responded to a residence on Brooklyn Dr. after receiving a 911 call that an individual was acting erratically and had a weapon. Upon the arrival of five Murray Police officers, a male subject, identified as 23-year-old Eric W. Saxton, exited the residence running toward officers with a weapon in his hand. The actions of Mr. Saxton prompted Officer Charles "Eddie" McGuire to fire his agency-issued weapon, striking Mr. Saxton in the leg. Mr. Saxton was transported to an out-of-state hospital where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
Murray Police Officer Eddie McGuire is a 1 year veteran with the Murray Police Department and has a history of 22 years in law enforcement.

MURRAY, Ky. (June 17, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 has been requested by the Murray Police Department (MPD) to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on June 16, at 11:54 p.m. CT. KSP Post 1 detectives arrived on the scene and began an investigation into the incident.
The preliminary investigation indicates MPD received a 911 call reporting an out-of-control male with a weapon at a residence on Brooklyn Drive. Officers responded and upon contact, the male suspect made threats at officers. One officer fired their agency-issued firearm, striking the individual. The suspect, identified as Eric W. Saxton, 23 years old of Murray, Ky., sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital before being transferred to another hospital for further treatment. No other injuries were reported.
