SOMERSET, KY WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DUI, WARRANT IN LAUREL COUNTY

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Cyruss McVey arrested Royetta Smith, age 44, of Somerset early Wednesday morning July 2, 2025 at approximately 6:54 AM.

The arrest occurred on Cole Road, approximately 2 miles west of London after Deputy McVey was dispatched by London – Laurel County 911 Communication Ctr. to a complaint of a vehicle sitting in the middle of the roadway with its lights on.

When Deputy McVey arrived at the scene of Cole Road and Clarity Lane he noted observing an orange colored Dodge Caliber in the middle of the intersection. As he approached the vehicle he observed a female subject who appeared to be unconscious in the driver seat with the engine running and the vehicle in drive.

When he knocked on the window of the vehicle the driver awakened but before she could exit the vehicle it began to roll backwards and she had to put the vehicle in park to get it to stop. When she exited the vehicle an investigation was conducted and it was determined that she was under the influence and operating on a suspended operator's license and had an outstanding warrant.

Royetta Smith was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
  • Operating on suspended or revoked operator's license

In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging:

  • Failure to appear in court

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
