LONDON, KY — Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Cyruss McVey arrested a Pell City, Alabama woman for DUI early Wednesday morning July 9, 2025 at approximately 2:19 AM.
The arrest occurred off KY 770 in a business parking lot approximately 9 miles south of London after Deputy McVay was dispatched by London – Laurel County 911 Communication Ctr. to a complaint of the driver of a black Honda Civic being apparently passed out in the driver seat with the engine running.
Upon arrival at the scene Deputy McVay made contact with the driver, noting that she had slurred speech, bloodshot glassy eyes and observing a bottle of Fireball Whiskey in the center console of the vehicle. In addition, Deputy McVay noted that the vehicle was not in a parking spot.
An investigation was conducted on the driver, identified as Bethanie Ann Smith, age 50, of Pell City, Alabama who was determined to be under the influence and she was taken into custody.
Bethanie Smith was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
