Walmart Foundation donates $20,500 to Trilogy Inc., Cumberland Hope Recovery Kentucky Centers
FRANKFORT, Ky.– First Lady Jane Beshear has joined substance abuse treatment advocates from across the state to announce a donation from the Walmart Foundation to benefit two Recovery Kentucky Centers. The Cumberland Hope Community Center for Women in Evarts will receive $10,500 from the Foundation and the Trilogy Center for Women in Hopkinsville will receive $10,000.
“Shortly after Steve took office in 2007, I visited a Recovery Kentucky Center for the first time and met women from all walks of life who were suffering from substance abuse and grateful for the care and understanding they received from the program,” said Mrs. Beshear, co-chair of the Recovery Kentucky Task Force. “Since that day, I have been an avid supporter of the unique peer-based therapy and long-term care these centers offer. I am thankful to the Walmart Foundation for its generous donation and know that it will go a long way toward helping Kentuckians.”
Recovery Kentucky is a program that helps Kentuckians recover from chronic substance abuse and addiction, and move toward a life of sobriety and productivity. It supplies supportive housing— a stable place to live, and a support system to help men and women recovering from substance abuse and addiction. The unique recovery program model also includes peer support, daily living and skills training, job responsibilities and practical living experiences.
Currently, there are ten Recovery Kentucky Centers across the Commonwealth including five men’s centers and five women’s centers. Each facility provides services to qualifying low-income clients, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay.
Recovery Kentucky is a joint effort by the Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC), the Department for Local Government (DLG) and the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
Walmart Foundation The Walmart Foundation’s mission is to create opportunities so people can live better and to make a positive impact in the communities they serve. The Walmart Foundation meets the needs of the underserved by directing charitable giving to four core areas of focus that include hunger relief and healthy eating, sustainability, women’s economic empowerment and career opportunity.
The Cumberland Hope Community Center for Women and The Trilogy Center were selected to receive grants because of their efforts to economically empower women through providing, sober living, and jobs and skills training.

Success of Recovery Kentucky In 2012, the University of Kentucky Center on Drug and Alcohol Research released a report that found that individuals who enroll in substance abuse programs at one of the state’s ten Recovery Kentucky Centers are more likely to abstain from drugs and are less likely to spend time in jail. Resources these days are often scarce so their help is certainly welcome, and will provide many daughters, mothers and wives, not to mention their families, a chance to start life over again free from the prison of substance abuse.”

Recovery Kentucky Task Force In 2008, Gov. Steve Beshear established the Recovery Kentucky Task Force. The 21-member task force ensures the continued effectiveness and financial success of the Recovery Kentucky program, which results in reduced public costs to the state’s justice and corrections system while furthering Kentucky’s economic development and per capita income goals.
