FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Arts Council is accepting applications until May 1 for its TranspARTation grant, which provides funding to schools for arts-related field trips.
Any Kentucky public or private school that supports grades pre-K through 12 may apply. Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis, and the May 1 deadline is for field trips occurring July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015.
"The TranspARTation grant is a resource that gives Kentucky teachers and students greater access to high-quality arts programming," said Lori Meadows, executive director of the arts council. "By applying for this opportunity, schools may be able to provide students with arts experiences they may not have received otherwise."
Grants are awarded based on the mileage from the school building to the arts organization or performance venue and the number of buses necessary. The next deadline to apply will be Aug. 15.
Schools that receive TranspARTation grants must attend arts events presented by one of many pre-approved TranspARTation organizations. Eligible organizations are all recipients of Kentucky Arts Partnership grant awards from the arts council and are listed on the program website.
For more information about applying for a TranspARTation grant, visit the TranspARTation webpage, or contact Jean St. John, arts education director, at or 502-564-3757, ext. 486.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
