OLIVE HILL, Ky. – Olive Hill will be celebrating its third annual Heritage Trail Ride this weekend.
The event begins Friday, Sept. 12, with a guided trail ride and evening festivities. The remainder of the weekend will feature more rides, musical entertainment and evening meals and socializing at the Depot Trailhead. On Sunday, there will be the first Fun Show, a family-oriented horse show, at Shriner’s Park.
Free camping is available at the Depot Trailhead for the event. There is also lodging and camping available nearby at Carter Caves State Resort Park.
Trail riders should visit the registration tent at the Depot Trailhead before their guided rides.
The ceremony for Olive Hill’s recent certification as an official Kentucky Trail Town that was planned for Friday afternoon is being rescheduled and will be announced at a later date.
“To get to the point of certification has been a tremendous group effort,” said Debbie Baker Harman, Olive Hill Trail Town task force chairperson. “We’ve had community-wide support, and people are realizing what Olive Hill has to offer, and the potential we have for our future.
“We expect a great time this weekend at the Heritage Trail Ride and encourage everyone to come out and see for themselves what we’ve been working on,” she said.
The Kentucky Trail Town Program is designed to help connect communities to trail systems and help develop them as tourist destinations. It will guide travelers to trails, food, lodging, campgrounds, museums, entertainment and other services. The designation will help communities improve their tourism economy, add more jobs and create more tourism opportunities for the entire state.
As an official Kentucky Trail Town, these communities will be highlighted on maps, websites, visitors’ guides and other state promotional material.
