Maryland State Police - THREE WAYS TO WARM UP ON A COLD DAY

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – As everyone in Maryland looks for ways to fight the cold today, the State Police has three easy and important ways to generate warmth that will not only benefit you, but thousands of others too.

#1. SIGN UP TO DO THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE POLAR BEAR PLUNGE FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS! -Does that sound counterintuitive? It is not. Go to www.plungemd.com and register to participate in the 19th Annual MSP Polar Bear Plunge to be held this January 24th, at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis. A minimum contribution of $75 and a quick jump into the Chesapeake Bay will generate funds to provide free year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Doing the Plunge will also generate a lifetime memory and a feeling a warmth unlike any other.

#2. MAKE A PLEDGE TO SUPPORT SOMEONE WHO IS PLUNGING! -Even though more than 13,000 people are expected to plunge this year, we know not everyone can join us on the beach. However, most people can at least make a pledge of support to Special Olympics Maryland by sponsoring someone who is plunging. The amazing generosity of Marylanders in support of the MSP Polar Bear Plunge is known around the world. So visit www.plungemd.com and click on ‘sponsor a plunger.’ Remember, the more you pledge, the warmer you will feel!

#3. LEARN ABOUT WHY WE DO THE PLUNGE! -Special Olympics is the adopted charity of law enforcement worldwide. Most police officers will tell you it only took one encounter with a Special Olympics athlete to convince them the impact the athletes have on them is greater than anything they can do for the athlete. You can learn about the impact Special Olympics has by visiting www.somd.org. Click on their YouTube page. Watch inspirational videos featuring Special Olympics athletes who are realizing their full potential through the power of sports.
