EASTERN KENTUCKY - WINTER STORM EXPECTED TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY

ROCKCASTLE - JACKSON - PULASKI - LAUREL - CLAY -  INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...MOUNT VERNON...BRODHEAD...MCKEE... ANNVILLE...SOMERSET...LONDON...MANCHESTER

ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM WILL TAKE AIM AT EASTERN KENTUCKY TONIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY. PRECIPITATION WILL INITIALLY BEGIN AS SNOW ACROSS THE AREA.

HOWEVER AS WARMER AIR ALOFT MOVES IN LATE TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY...A CHANGEOVER TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WILL OCCUR...WITH SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED.

WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 1:00 PM EST SATURDAY...

* SNOW WILL DEVELOP TONIGHT...THEN TRANSITION TO A MIX OF SNOW...SLEET...FREEZING RAIN...AND RAIN THROUGH THE DAY ON SATURDAY. THE PRECIPITATION WILL THEN GRADUALLY DIMINISH SATURDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE TO THREE INCHES AS WELL AS UP TO A HALF OF AN INCH OF ICE ARE EXPECTED.

* TRAVEL WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY. THE HEAVY AND WET NATURE OF THE SNOW AND SLEET AS WELL AS ANY ICE ACCUMULATION WILL ALSO BRING THE THREAT OF POWER OUTAGES. IN ADDITION...DEEP SNOW ACCUMULATION ON ROOFS AND ADDITIONAL PRECIPITATION THIS WEEKEND MAY RESULT IN ROOF COLLAPSE ON WEAK STRUCTURES.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS.
