Shoplifting arrests - Laurel County

 

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Kevin Berry along with Deputy Brandon Broughton arrested two individuals – one subject inside Walmart and one subject in the vicinity in a vehicle in southern Laurel County on Saturday afternoon March 14, 2015 at approximately 2:26 P.M..

Deputies were dispatched to a complaint that Walmart's loss prevention team had allegedly observed a male subject assisting a female subject to conceal items inside her purse. When the loss prevention team tried to detain the two individuals, the male subject fled the scene in a white colored car. The female subject was detained.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they learned that Walmart's loss prevention team was able to get a license plate number off the suspect's white car even though the plate had been beat to hide the numerals.

Deputies were able to locate the male subject in the vicinity in a white Mercury Sable. They learned from the male subject that he and his girlfriend had allegedly went to Walmart with the intention of shoplifting and that he had helped her throughout the store to conceal items inside the female's purse--value over $340.

Deputies arrested both individuals and they are identified as:

Walter Thompson age 27 of South Laurel Road, London KY - Charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting and criminal trespassing – third-degree.

Rachel Vanorden age 20 also of South Laurel Road, London KY - Charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting. Both individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
