Injury Collision - Charges filed with others pending

(Catrons Valley, Ky.) Kentucky State Police Post 10 in Harlan investigated a two-vehicle injury collision on West Highway 72 on Tuesday night. Troopers Kevin Miller and Brandon Burton responded to the call just after 9:00 pm.

According to the investigation, James Denver Gross, age 34, of Harlan, was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier westbound on Highway 72. Mr. Gross entered Pruitt’s curve and lost control of the vehicle, crossing the centerline, striking an eastbound 2000 Pontiac Grand Am operated by a 17 year-old male juvenile, of Gulston. Mr. Gross was pinned inside of the vehicle and was extricated by mechanical means by the members of the Harlan County Rescue Squad.

Mr. Gross and all five juvenile occupants in the Grand Am were transported to Harlan ARH by crews from Harlan EMS and Johnson’s Lifecare. All involved, except Mr. Gross, were wearing their safety belts. Mr. Gross was admitted to Harlan ARH for his injuries. At the time of this release, the others were expected to be treated and released.

He has been charged with operating a motor vehicle under influence-first offense, operating on a suspended license, no seatbelt, no insurance and several other traffic charges. Other charges are pending against Mr. Gross.
