Updated release on shoplifter that fled deputies - Laurel County

 

 

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Kyle Gray along with Deputy Rick Cloyd arrested Crystal Parker age 33 highway 490, East Bernstadt on Friday afternoon March 20, 2015 at approximately 4:30 P.M..

The arrest occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart's loss prevention team allegedly observed this subject shoplifting in their store.

This subject allegedly fled on foot afterwards and was located by deputies near the West Cumberland Gap Parkway, a short distance from Walmart.

This subject ran as soon as she saw Deputy Cloyd, and fled across two lanes of the four lane, and Deputy Cloyd pulled near the median, and when this subject saw Deputy Cloyd near her, she tried to flee across the remaining two lanes, but was pulled out of traffic after she was nearly struck by a pickup truck driving by (unnoticed by her).

When deputies conducted an investigation, this subject gave false identification at the scene, however while being processed at the Sheriff's office properly identified herself.

Crystal Parker was charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting; fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot; and giving an officer a false name or address.

In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel County warrant of arrest charging escape – second-degree – this subject allegedly was on home incarceration serving 120 days on a 360 day sentence when she cut her ankle bracelet off and fled, and could not be located.

Also, this subject was wanted on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear regarding a receiving stolen property charge.

Crystal Parker was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
