Fatal crash in Knox County

(Corbin, Ky.) On March 24, 2015 at 5:37 Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call of an injury collision on Ky 3436 in the Corbin community of Knox County. Troopers from Post 10 responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicates that a 2008 Honda CBR600 motorcycle, operated by Michael Caldwell, 21, of Woodbine was traveling east on Ky 3436. A 2006 Nissan Armada, operated by Mallory Johnson, 27, of Corbin was traveling west on Ky 3436 when she was attempting to make a left turn into a driveway.

The operator of the motorcycle struck the passenger’s side of the Nissan, causing both the operator and passenger to be ejected from the motorcycle.

Neither were wearing helmets at the time of the collision. Mr. Caldwell was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knox County Coroner. The passenger, Jamie Sibley, 29, of Woodbine was flown from the scene to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for her injuries.

Mrs. Johnson was transported to Baptist Health of Corbin for observation. The two other passengers in the Nissan did not receive any injuries.

Collision is still under investigation by KSP Reconstructionist Kenny Sargent.

Also assisted at the scene were troopers from Post 10, KSP Post 11 Reconstructionist Justin Oliver, Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Knox County EMS, Woodbine Fire Dept, and West Knox Fire Dept.
