Statutory committee responsible for reviewing state agencies, making recommendations on issue like expenditure of tax dollars
FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 16, 2015) - Representative Tim Couch, R-Hyden, has been appointed to the Program Review and Investigations Committee in Frankfort.
House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover appointed Rep. Couch to serve on the statutory committee earlier this week.
"Given his background and expertise as a small business owner in his home county, Rep. Couch brings a unique perspective to this committee making him a natural choice to serve," Leader Hoover said. "The people in his district know how hard Rep. Couch works to represent them in Frankfort, and I know he'll bring that same drive to this committee."
"During my time in the General Assembly, I've never been afraid to ask questions and when necessary call out what I perceive to be a problem in state government that needs to be solved," said Rep. Couch. "I look forward to lending my voice to this committee, and watching how our agencies spend your tax dollars in finding potential ways for them to be more fiscally responsible."
According to the Legislative Research Commission (LRC) website, the Program Review and Investigations Committee is empowered to review the operations of state agencies and programs, to determine whether funds are being spent for the purposes for which they were appropriated, to evaluate the efficiency of program operations, and to evaluate the impact of state government reorganizations. State agencies are obligated to correct operational problems identified by the committee and must implement the committee's recommendations or propose suitable alternatives.
Rep. Couch was first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2002, and serves Clay, Leslie, and part of Laurel County in the 90th District. He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources and Environment, and is a member of the House Committees on Tourism Development and Energy, Transportation, and Veterans, Military Affairs, & Public Safety.
