Police in Laurel County searching for hit and run suspect

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that the Laurel County Sheriff's office is asking for your help in locating a hit and run vehicle that struck a female subject's vehicle in the rear that was stopped at a red traffic light traveling westbound on Ky 80 at the I- 75 intersection on Wednesday afternoon June 17, 2015 at approximately 2:21 P.M.

Allegedly the hit and run suspect vehicle then slammed his vehicle into reverse and backed away quickly apparently so the vehicle that he struck could not get license tag information.

Under paneling from the suspect vehicle was dangling as it fled the scene. The suspect vehicle then fled eastbound on KY 80 traveling over to US 25 and headed north toward East Bernstadt.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older model either maroon or reddish colored Jeep Cherokee driven by a lone male subject that appeared to have brown hair and a tan possibly in his 20s.

The vehicle will have front-end damage with parts of the vehicle dangling.

The female victim that was struck received injuries and is being treated at London St. Joseph Hospital.

Anyone with any information on the suspect or the suspect vehicle is asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff's office at 606-864-6600 or 606-878-7000.

London city police officer Jordan Hopkins is investigating the hit-and-run.
