Arrest and Update to the Traffic Crash and Assault Investigation / Laurel County



(LONDON, KY.) – Kentucky State Police SGT Steve Walker is investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a state trooper that occurred at approximately 11:56 PM on Friday, May 29, 2015 on KY 192 in London.

The investigation revealed that Trooper Donnie Foley, who was operating a marked state police cruiser, was stopped at a traffic light in the westbound lane of KY 192 at the intersection of KY 363 in the city limits of London when a semi-truck, that was also traveling westbound, struck the rear of Trooper Foley’s vehicle. After the initial impact, the semi-truck impacted Trooper Foley’s vehicle a second time, causing injury to Trooper Foley and severe damage to the cruiser. After the second impact, the semi-truck fled the scene, turned right onto KY 363 and continued northbound toward London.

An immediate broadcast was made and numerous police units responded to the scene and searched the area but were unable to locate the semi-truck. Trooper Foley was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in London where he was treated and released.

**UPDATE**

Upon further investigation Richard D. Wyatt, 43, of London was identified as being the operator of a stolen 2009 Kenworth semi-truck that struck the cruiser and then fled the scene.

KSP SGT Steve Walker obtained an arrest warrant for Wyatt which was already in custody at the Laurel County Detention Center on unrelated charges.

On Monday July 06, 2015 he was charged with Assault 1st Degree (Police Officer), Criminal Mischief 1st Degree and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

KSP SGT Steve Walker continues the investigation, he was assisted by Troopers from Post 11 and Laurel County Constable Denver Mays.
