(Cawood, KY) July 27, 2015 – Kentucky State Police, Post 10 in Harlan is investigating a single vehicle collision which occurred on Nola Street in the Cawood community of Harlan County. The call was reported around 4:19 pm.
According to the preliminary investigation by KSP Trooper Rodney Sturgill, a 1997 Ford Thunderbird operated by Shawn K. Smith, 30, of Cawood, was traveling west on Nola Street. The vehicle left the right side of the roadway which resulted in the vehicle to spin across the roadway.
He then struck a tree on the passenger side on the left side of the roadway.
The vehicle then overturned and came to rest on its top. Mr. Smith was transported by LifeCare Ambulance to Harlan ARH where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the collision continues by Trooper Rodney Sturgill. Assisting at the scene was the Harlan County Rescue Squad, Harlan County Sheriff’s Offc, Harlan Police Dept, and Johnsons LifeCare Ambulance.
