(Beattyville, KY) — The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is investigating a fatal collision that happened just after 9:00 A.M. Friday on Highway 708 in Lee County.
The initial investigation indicates that Michael Spencer, 58 years old of Beattyville was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, north on HWY-708. Spencer crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, operated by Laura Thorpe, 30 years old of Beattyville.
Michael Spencer was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lee County Coroner. Laura Thorpe was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Bobby Edwards. He was assisted at the scene by Lee County EMS, Lee County Fire & Rescue, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Beattyville Police Department, and the Lee County Coroner.
