Pedestrian involved injury traffic crash at a Laurel County school

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Kyle Gray investigated a pedestrian involved traffic crash on Tuesday afternoon August 25, 2015 at approximately 3 PM.

Deputy Gray reports that apparently a Johnson Elementary school employee was struck (knocking her to the ground) by a Ford Expedition as she walked from the school building to her vehicle.

The pedestrian is identified as Melissa Chestnut age 43 of McWhorter Road London – transported to St. Joseph Hospital London for treatment of head and neck injuries.

The driver of the black colored Ford expedition was identified as Louisa Hammons age 34 of Langnau Rd., London- she advised investigators that she was at school driving through the bus loop to pickup her child early, and that sun glare blinded her prior to the crash.

Assisting at the crash site was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, London Laurel Rescue Squad, and Laurel County Fire Department. Laurel County School Superintendent Doug Bennett also came to the scene contacting investigators.
