Police use cell phone to track attempted murder suspect in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Shawn Jackson along with Deputy Andrew Lawson arrested Christopher Robinson age 40 of Laurel Rd., London early Saturday morning September 26, 2015 at approximately 12:47 AM.

The arrest occurred on Shopping Center Road in front of Kmart and Kroger's off the KY 192 bypass in London after deputies were dispatched to an attempted murder off Tackett Spur Road, approximately 8 miles south of London on Friday night September 25, 2015 at approximately 10:17 PM.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they learned that a male suspect had fled the scene prior to their arrival.He was identified as Christopher Robinson.

Deputies learned through investigation that allegedly Christopher Robinson had went into the bedroom of the victim who was lying in a bed and stabbed and cut the victim in the head causing a serious injury.

Robinson allegedly stated that he was going to kill the victim, and allegedly had a large boot knife concealed in his jeans prior to the assault.

When Robinson fled the scene, he apparently took a relative's cell phone with him when leaving the residence. Deputies were able to track the suspect through the cell phone he was carrying – tracking him to I-75 nearby where he was picked up in a vehicle by a friend traveling toward London.

The deputies continued to track the suspect through the cell phone he was carrying. Deputy Andrew Lawson located the suspect in a vehicle in front of Kroger's on Shopping Center Road in London and arrested him without incident.

The victim was transported to Baptist Healthcare Hospital Corbin for treatment of his injuries. Christopher Robinson was charged with attempted murder.

In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court regarding a charge of giving an officer a false name; also charged on a Laurel County warrant of arrest charging escape second-degree and theft by failure to make required disposition of property – this subject was allegedly serving a 90 day sentence on home incarceration when he removed his ankle bracelet and left home and could not be located.

Assisting deputies on the investigation were:

London PD officer Jeremy Schell, LPD Officer Darrell Zanet, and London PD officer William Jones, KSP Trooper Brandon Creekmore, KSP Trooper Chris Saunders, KSP Trooper Donnie Foley, and KSP/CVE Officer Mike Hamblin.
