Attempted Murder of a Police Officer and Complicity to Commit Murder of a Police Officer arrests in Madison County

(Richmond, KY) - The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is investigating a shooting that critically injured a Richmond Police Officer yesterday.

RPD Officer Daniel Ellis, 33 years old of Richmond, and a seven year veteran of RPD was shot while investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Officer Ellis's investigation led him to an apartment on Ballard Drive just before 10:30 a.m., belonging to Gregory Ratliff.

It is alleged that while Officer Ellis and another RPD Officer were searching the apartment, Raleigh Sizemore produced a firearm and shot Officer Ellis, critically injuring him.

Following the initial shooting, an officer inside the residence then returned fire and struck Raleigh Sizemore. Officer Daniel Ellis was transported by EMS to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he is being treated for life threatening injuries.

Raleigh Sizemore, 34 years old of Richmond, was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.

Sizemore has been arrested and charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer and Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree. He is lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

Gregory Ratliff, 25 years old of Richmond has also been arrested and charged with Complicity to Commit Murder of a Police Officer. He is also lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post.

KSP was assisted at the scene by Richmond Police Department, Madison County EMS, Richmond Fire Department, and the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
