Frankfort, KY - On November 3, 2015, the Kentucky State Police Cannabis Suppression Branch, assisted by troopers from KSP Post 7-Richmond, arrested Berea-resident Vincent L. Lawson, 27, as a result of a crime tip received on KSP’s mobile phone app. The information enabled KSP detectives to arrange a meeting with Lawson in Richmond where he attempted to exchange one ounce of marijuana for a laptop computer.
Lawson was charged with trafficking in marijuana less than eight ounces and possession of drug paraphernalia.
KSP introduced the app in July 2015 in an effort to enhance its partnership with local communities by providing a quicker, easier and more practical way to exchange information. “This mobile application allows a convenient way for KSP to bring law enforcement closer to the community,” says KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer. “We believe it will provide a mechanism for positive interactions with the public and ultimately lead to more arrests of the bad guys.”
The app features include a voice messaging tip line, the ability to send a photo tip, access to the sex offender registry, weather, road and traffic information and much more. It also provides the ability to geo-target specific locations within the Commonwealth with emergency push notifications.
The KSP app is available free of charge in both the Apple© and Google Play© stores and is available for iPhone, iPad and Android phone users. The application is titled ‘KSPOLICE’
Brewer encourages citizens to download the app and actively participate in crime prevention within their home communities.
“With the public’s eyes and ears, we can receive crucial information that assists us in solving crimes,” adds Brewer. “This is community policing at its finest for a safer Kentucky.”
