Commercial Vehicle Accident on I-75 in Whitley County



(Williamsburg, KY) -  On Thursday November 19th 2015 around 4PM Officer Chris McQueen with KSP-Vehicle Enforcement responded to an accident involving a tractor trailer near the 8 mile marker in Whitley County, Kentucky.

Upon arrival and through investigation officers found 54 year old Richard Van-Lannen of Cato Wisconson was south on I-75 when he lost control of his 2014 Kenworth Tractor Trailer hitting the cable barrier, crossing the median, and coming back up into the south bound lane of traveling. Once back into the south bound lanes of travel, Van-Lannen collided with a 2009 Dodge SUV being operated by 40 year old Tracy Hoshaw of Greenwood Indiana.

Drugs and alcohol are suspected factors as further investigation found prescription medication and alcohol in the tractor trailer. Van-Lannen was arrested on scene, and taken to the Whitley County Detention Center.

Interstate traffic was routed down US25 south in Williamsburg for around 2 hours while crews cleared the interstate.

Assisting on Scene: Vehicle Enforcement Officers, Williamsburg Police, Williamsburg Fire Department, Emlyn Fire Department Whitley Co. Emergency Management and KY State Highway Department. Officer Chris McQueen continues the investigation.
