Shoplifting complaint leads to drug arrest in London



LONDON KY—On Sunday, Dec. 13th at 6:10 p.m. London Police Ofc. Greg Turner was Dispatched to Walmart on Hwy. 192 in reference to a shoplifting complaint that soon after led to a drug arrest.

Ofc. Turner responded to the complaint and observed a vehicle matching the description provided leaving Walmart and turning right onto Hwy. 192. Ofc. Turner conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the passenger, Brenda S. Shupe, 29, of Barbourville who had shoplifted. Ofc. Justin Roby and Sgt. Richie Reynolds arrived at the scene to assist.

Ofc. Turner stated that the driver was extremely nervous while giving consent to search his vehicle using a K-9. While Ofc. Turner ran his K-9 around the vehicle, he alerted on the rear side of the driver’s door. A small purse belonging to Shupe was found containing baggies, needles, and a spoon. Inside one of the baggies methamphetamine was discovered.

Brenda S. Shupe was arrested and transported to the Laurel County Detention Center where employees located three bags of hidden methamphetamine and one Suboxone strip.

Shupe was charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition shoplifting under $500, first degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and second degree promotion of contraband.
