Victim airlifted from scene of train-car collision in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Jamie Grimes along with Deputy Brandon Broughton investigated a car versus train serious injury traffic crash which occurred on Hazel Patch road at the railroad crossing, approximately 10 miles north of London on Tuesday afternoon December 15, 2015 at approximately 2:25 PM.

The investigating deputies report that apparently a car traveling westbound on Hazel patch road attempted to cross the railroad tracks and collided with a northbound CSX freight train that had 61 cars hauling water pipes. The driver of the car reportedly told deputies that she did not see or hear the train approaching.

The driver of the car was identified as Annetta Conley age 63 Of Shepherd Rd., East Bernstadt – airlifted from the scene by Air Evac helicopter to UK hospital for treatment of injuries.

Passenger in the vehicle was identified as the driver's daughter Melissa Conley age 37 of Fire Station Rd., London – transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to St. Joseph Hospital in London for treatment of injuries.

Assisting at the crash site was East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire Department, and London Laurel Rescue Squad.
