Fatal crash in Knox County results in Murder charge



(Flat Lick, Ky.) – On December 23, 2015 Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call from Knox County Dispatch about a fatal accident on Ky 718 in the Stinking Creek community of Knox County. Trooper Sammy Faris and Trooper Russell Maynard responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Melissa Warren was operating a 2000 Chevrolet pickup west bound on Ky 718 when she failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the east bound lane of travel striking a guardrail. Ms. Warren then struck a tree with the rear portion of the truck causing it to overturn. The passenger in the vehicle, Ryan J. Baker, age 20, of Flat lick was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knox County Coroner as a result of his injuries. Ms. Warren was taken by ambulance to the Knox County ARH Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and was then released.

Ms. Warren has been lodged in the Knox County Detention Center and charged with driving under the influence, murder, leaving the scene of an accident and several other charges.

Collision is still under investigation by Tpr. Russell Maynard. Tpr. Sammy Faris also assisted at the scene.
