KSP warns of Knox County telephone scam

(Barbourville, Ky.) – On January 4, 2016, Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan, received calls from residents in Knox County about a possible scam.

Tpr. Chad Gregory responded to several residents and determined the caller is calling individuals in Knox County and stating he is a Deputy with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. The caller is telling people that they have missed grand jury duty and have been fined money. The caller is asking individuals to pay electronically or getting credit card information.

Kentucky State Police is advising everyone that this is a scam and do not give out personal information or credit card numbers over the phone. You can contact the Knox County Circuit Clerks Office about Grand Jury Duty.
