Two arrested for shoplifting in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Jamie Grimes along with Deputy Kyle Gray arrested two individuals on Saturday afternoon, January 9, 2016, at approximately 5 PM.

The arrests occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart's loss prevention team detained two individuals. When deputies arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation, they learned that two individuals had allegedly been observed attempting to leave the store with unpaid merchandise totaling over $44.

Arrested was Kristi Lester, age 39, of Robert E Cox Rd., Apartments, Corbin, charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting.

Also arrested was Jenny Atkins, age 35, of Robert E Cox Rd., Apartments, Corbin, charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting. In addition, this subject was charged on a Knox County bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court regarding a charge of flagrant nonsupport. Also, this subject was charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court.

Both individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
