Two arrested for shoplifting in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Shawn Jackson arrested two individuals at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County on Monday night, January 11, 2016, at approximately 10:58 PM.

The two individuals were detained by Walmart's loss prevention team until Deputy Jackson arrived and conducted an investigation. Deputy Jackson learned that the two individuals had allegedly been concealing items on their person and in a bag that the female subject had, and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items – total value of the theft was $245.

Arrested was Whitney Mills, age 26, of Moores Creek Rd., Fourmile, KY., charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting; also arrested was James Merida, age 26, of Ever Green Road, Flat Lick, KY., charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting.

The female subject told Deputy Jackson that she came from Knox County to Corbin Walmart because they had all the good items and the store in Barbourville does not have anything worth stealing.
