Subject injures self while shoplifting in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Rick Cloyd arrested Heather Boggs, age 31, of Watch Rd., Corbin, on Saturday night, January 16, 2016, at approximately 10:07 PM.

The arrest occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart's loss prevention team detained this subject. When Deputy Cloyd arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation, he learned that this subject had allegedly been observed cutting open merchandise and had also damaged merchandise as a result.

This subject had also cut herself in the process of opening merchandise. This subject was determined to be under the influence. Heather Boggs was charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting.

This subject was charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court regarding a charge of theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting, public intoxication – controlled substances, and prescription controlled substances not in proper container first offense. This subject was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries apparently sustained while cutting open merchandise.
