Kevil, KY. – On February 22, 2016 Kentucky State Police, Post 1 received a call from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a subject that had been assaulted in Ballard County.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s office had initially opened an investigation into the February 19, 2016 assault but later determined through investigation that the assault occurred in Ballard County.
Through investigation, Trooper Adam Jones and KSP Drug Enforcement and Special Investigations Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for a residence on County Line Road in Kevil, KY.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on February 25, 2016 KSP Troopers, along with KSP DESI Detectives, and the ATF served the search warrant. Upon service of the search warrant, units recovered a set of brass knuckles and three firearms, including a rifle and two handguns. Additionally, trace amounts of Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, marijuana, and a substantial amount of ammunition were located and seized. The ATF and DESI Detectives also seized six additional handguns and ammunition from a local business.
Trooper Adam Jones charged Jerry J. Compton, Jr., 36, of Kevil, KY with 2 counts of Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon (Class C Felony), 1 count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Class D Felony), Assault 1st Degree (Class B Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance, 1st Degree – Methamphetamine (Class D Felony), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor).
Shranda C. Smith, 28, of Kevil, KY was charged with Complicity to Assault 1st Degree (Class B Felony), Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor). Smith was also served with an unrelated outstanding warrant out of Graves County for Bail Jumping, 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).
Compton, Jr. and Smith were lodged in the Ballard County Jail.
